The Marieval Enterprise Center has experienced significant success in working with community residents in partnership with a variety of Provincial and Federal government departments.
2007
- January 2007, introduced IC3 on-line preparation courses
- May 2007 launched the Wireless WAN in Cape Breton County NS
- June 2007 invited conference presenter at the Business Retention and Expansion International 14th Annual Conference
2006
- January 2006 commence the promotion and access to on-line learning technologies Tutor.com and GED prep on-line
- February 2006 invited conference presenter at the CCEDNET National Conference in Vancouver
- April 2006 continue to roll-out the wireless WAN for home users in First Nation Communities and Non-native communities un-serviced in rural Saskatchewan
- July 2006, invited to attend the international conference on community technology development hosted by CTCNet.
- July 2006 Digitally captured the 100th Birthday Celebration for Grayson Saskatchewan and produced a DVD series for the community
- July 2006 commence the introduction to community leaders about the important role of technology in education and training
- October 2006 awarded a grant to participate in a Management Exchange and a computer technician exchange
2005
- 2004 & 2005 hosted the Provincial Technology conference
- May 2005 commences the roll-out of wireless technologies within First Nation communities
- June 2005 - August 2006 act as the sponsor for a $400,000 Aboriginal Healing Foundation Contract with Thunderchild First Nation
- July 2005, expands its operation into a 6000 square foot facility, offering a fully wired computer lab and e-learning center, 1600 sq ft of refurbishing center and 1600 sq ft for trades training and labour force development
- September 2005, commence the development of an e-learning center on Ochapowace First Nation
2004
- March 2004 Video production recording for the National Community Crime Prevention workshop held in Lebret. Final product was a DVD production of the working session and clips from the various sections.
- March 2004, contract with the Provincial Public Internet Access Association to develop a Portal for the Association www.SPAN-RAPS.ca
- March 2004 Video Production of a Provincial Community Access Project. All session speakers were captured on video and a DVD of their presentation was developed.
- April 2004, part of the Saskatchewan Team to develop IM/IT within the Voluntary Sector of Saskatchewan
2003
- January 2003 in partnership with Saskatchewan Justice launched an after school program for high risk youth.
- February 2003 in partnership with SaskTel Pioneer group launched Faces of Racism Through the Eyes of a Child. This pilot project works with children in grades 4, 5, and 6 from Cowessess School and Davison School in Melville, Sask.
- March 2003, Refurbishing Center established in partnership with Industry Canada.
- April 2003, The Marieval Enterprise Center Inc. sponsored a client, Allan Louison from the Kahkewistahaw First Nation to hold Indian Residential School workshops funded through the Aboriginal Healing Foundation. The workshops were held in five First Nation Communities. The project was so successful, the Aboriginal Healing Foundation approved for a series of follow-up workshops in these communities.
- May 2003, contract signed to administer the contribution agreement for 114 CAP sites through out South East Saskatchewan, in partnership with Industry Canada
- June 2003, The Marieval Enterprise Center Inc. commences the implementation of two-way high-speed satellite dishes in all First Nation and non-native rural communities not scheduled to be provided with service.
- June 2003, The Marieval Enterprise Center Inc. holds a Grande Finale for the Faces of Racism Through the Eyes of a Child project. The program was hosted by Davison Elementary School in Melville, Saskatchewan.
- June 2003, in partnership with Canadas Digital Collections, hired 4 Post-Secondary students to collect pictures and stories on cultural and historical sites to be posted on the Canadas Digital Collections web site.
- July 2003, The Marieval Enterprise Center Inc. in partnership with the Saskatchewan Justice hosted two, two week day camps for children of age 5- 12
- July 2003, in partnership with Human Resources Development Canada hired three Secondary Students to digitize and collect information on historical and cultural sites.
- August 2003, The Marieval Enterprise Center Inc. wins second place in a North American competition for Innovative Programming for Children, for the Faces of Racism Through the Eyes of a Child project.
- September 2003, in partnership with Canadian Agricultural Rural Community Initiatives (CARCI) and the Yorkton Tribal Council launched a two day workshop for Economic Development and Land Managers and Band Councilors holding these portfolios.
- October 2003, the Technology Department staff attends a conference in Saskatoon for a Community Futures Conference. The staff was responsible for digitizing the entire conference. This conference was put into a PowerPoint Presentation including Biographys and pictures of the speakers as well they profiled six entrepreneurs.
- October 2003, the Marieval Enterprise Center Inc. hires one First Nation youth to train for the refurbishing center. This youth will complete his A+ Technical Certification. This youth was hired under the Community Access Program Youth Initiative funded by Industry Canada.
- November 2003, the technology department is awarded a contract to digitize and record the events of a conference for the Community Futures, Executive Directors in the Province of Saskatchewan. The technology staff will be responsible for creating a PowerPoint presentation with music of the entire conference. Also added to their presentation will be a biography of each speaker as well as pictures.
- November 2003, the Marieval Enterprise Center Inc. hires two more First Nation youths under the Community Access Program Youth Initiative funded by Industry Canada.
- December 2003, the Marieval Enterprise Center agrees to be utilized as a work placement site for graduating students from the A+ Technical Certification program through SIAST
2002
- January 2002, the Marieval Enterprise Center launched a Community Drop-In Center program in partnership with Saskatchewan Labour Force Development. Eight communities within the region will have access to computer training or business development workshops in their community.
- March of 2002 in partnership with Ocean Man First Nation and the Weyburn HRDC office, Marieval Enterprise Center launched a 6-month Youth Service Canada project and a Masonry course on the Ocean Man First Nation. Ten youth and a supervisor are employed through HRDC and Ocean Man has hired four additional people for the project.
- March of 2002, with the cooperation of the Local Indian Management Board and the Cowessess First Nation, the Marieval Enterprise Center launched a 4-week Pre-trade Masonry course on the Cowessess First Nation. There were 14 participants who successfully completed the course.
- April 2002, the Marieval Enterprise Center launched a Youth Service Canada project on the Cowessess First Nation in co-operation with Human Resources Development Canada Yorkton office. This program has given 10 youth ages 18-30 the opportunity to work related experience in community development and beautification as well as experience working in the stone mason trade.
- April of 2002 the Marieval Enterprise Center launched a Canadian Digital Collection program in partnership with Industry Canada. This project is currently ongoing and has given the Marieval Enterprise Center the opportunity to hire 4 youth for a period of 4 months. The objectives of this project are to produce a web page that depicts a traditional experience in a tipi camp.
- June 2002, MEC will be mentoring a new staff member for 6 months in the areas of program design and implementation, computer skill development, administration and supervising. Staff member is still employed with the Marieval Enterprise Center Inc. as of November 2003.
- June 2002, MEC was granted funding to host a Technology Intern who will be working on developing web pages, technology infrastructure and training. Intern is still employed with the Marieval Enterprise Center Inc. and heads up the Technology Department.
- July 2002, MEC will host a work placement student who has completed the first year of a Business Administration Program. The student will assist MEC with program implementation for six weeks during the summer.
- July 2002 the Marieval Enterprise Center will launch a two-month Summer Career Placement program in the communities of Key, Cowessess, Sakimay, and Ocean Man.
- October 2002 in partnership with Industry Canada, became the South East Network coordinator for 64 CAP Sites.
- November 2002, in partnership with Painted Hand Community Development Corporation to establish a program that focused on personal and career development for persons overcoming addictions.
- December 2002 in partnership with the Regional Development Initiative was awarded a contract to complete a technology assessment of the 13 member communities of MEC.
2001
- July 2001 the Marieval Enterprise Center in partnership with HRDC (Yorkton and Regina offices) launched two more Youth Services Canada Programs one on the Cote First Nation and one in the community of Whitewood. Both programs have proved to be successful in assisting the young people in making the transition to employment or furthering their education.
- August 1, 2001 the Marieval Enterprise Center Inc. was awarded a three-year Community Learning Network contract through the Office of Learning Technologies. This contract ensured the continued development and use of technology for the member communities and increased the potential for additional, new and innovative economic development activities throughout the region.
- October 2001, the Marieval Enterprise Center received a contract through the Community Mobilization Program, administered through Saskatchewan Justice. The project is an after-school program designed to provide high-risk students with learning opportunities through role modeling, computer training, presentations and work experience. The students must remain in school and maintain good attendance. The project will complete in June of 2002.
- November 2001, the Marieval Enterprise Center launched the Youth Services Canada Project - Focus on Tourism on the Cowessess First Nation. The program hired 8 youth for a period of 16 weeks. They focused on community tourism development and had a number of projects on the go. The participants have been working and learning at a pre-trade level. The project ended in March 2002.
- December 2001 the Marieval Enterprise Center provided two youth with an employment opportunity as a Community Access Program Youth Intern. These youth were from the communities of Cote and Ocean Man. This project was a partnership with Industry Canada, and lasted for three months.
2000
- March 2000, 12 youth between the ages of 18 and 29 participated in the program funded through a partnership of Human Resources Development Canada, Kahkewistahaw First Nation and the Marieval Enterprise Center. Their first 8 weeks of the 14-week program was classroom training. The program was designed to assist with the personal and skill development of the participants, with the goal of establishing a youth cooperative (Market Garden) and providing volunteer services to beautify the community of Kahkewistahaw. After the 14-week program, the Kahkewistahaw First Nation provided funding to cover wages for the remaining 10 youth from July 3 to October 6. The Market Garden expanded into a commercial potatoe operation and was taken over by the Kahkewistahaw Band. The originating youth, were hired as the supervisors and crew bosses.
- June 2000, the Marieval Enterprise Center was honored through the Saskatchewan Labour Force Development Board with an award for Equity Partnerships for the projects that were offered in 1999, through the partnerships with HRDC.
1999
- June 1, 1999 the Marieval Enterprise Center launched a Community Enhancement Program Youth Services Canada Project. Ten youth between the ages of 18 and 30 would participate in the program. The Program ended in September and six were offered full time employment, 3 returned to school or university that fall, 1 returned to school the next year.
The Center opened in January 1999 with the launching of a five-month Management Internship program. The goal of the program was to provide 5 young adults who displayed strong leadership qualities with the opportunity to further develop their abilities as entrepreneurs and managers. The management internship program was completed on May 21, 1999. Four of the Five participants secured full time employment and one talented artist launched his own business and continues to secure contracts throughout the province.
